In a TVC interview, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), discussed the turmoil in Rivers State. He indicated that Governor Fubara is dealing with a situation involving the compromised structural integrity of a building, likely caused by incidents of fire and dynamite. Pearse suggested that Fubara is taking a confrontational and assertive stance to address the challenges he’s encountering. Pearse indicated that Fubara perceives a threat to his governorship, prompting him to take decisive measures to safeguard his position.

Pearse recognized the potential perception of the governor overreacting but stressed the importance of directing attention to the structural compromise of the building rather than assigning blame for the damage. Pearse suggests that Fubara’s choice to demolish the structurally compromised building is portrayed as a reaction to what he views as a challenge to his governorship.

He suggests that the governor might be overreacting, and it’s uncertain whether the governor and his associates are responsible for detonating the building. What is certain, however, is that the building’s structural integrity has been compromised. The destruction of the building through the fire incident and the dynamite incident has compromised the structure of the building. Therefore, Fubara has a legitimate excuse for demolishing the building, but we have to put it in the context of the dynamics of politics. What Fubara is doing is fighting fire with fire; that’s what he’s doing. He believes that his survival as governor is at stake, and he’s going to do whatever he needs to do. Therefore, we have to keep going back to where the origin of this problem is. Who triggered this confusion? That’s where the problem is.”
