A Legal Practitioner, Emmanuel Anene has questioned why Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as the Chief Security Officer, hadn’t initiated an investigation into the explosion in the state assembly house and noted the asymmetry in calls for an investigation. He expressed concern that despite the calls, no arrests or court charges have been made, raising questions about the lack of evidence. He emphasized the importance of evidence in prosecution and criticized the demolition, suggesting that it may have destroyed crucial evidence for a successful legal process.
He said in an interview with TVC, ”The 27 members of the Rivers state House of Assembly are calling for an investigation. They are calling for arrest, nobody is being arrested, nobody is being charged to Court, then you have demolished the house. So where is the evidence. Even if you arrest anybody today or tomorrow and you say he orchestrated the burning of the house. So where is the evidence? If the security agents had gone into the house, they would have picked one or two evidence that would have led to successful prosecution.
Prosecution is not a catechism class where you will go and sing National anthem and go. You have to prove beyond reasonable doubt and those evidence that will lead to clinical prosecution has been destroyed by this virtue of destruction. The Rivers state governor is the Chief Security officer of the state, Why is he [Fubara] not calling for an investigation? Why is it that it is the other side that are calling for an investigation?”
