‘Fubara Thinks He’s Above Constitution’ – Amaewhule Says, Passes Law Without Governor’s Consent

Rivers State is embroiled in a deepening crisis as Speaker Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly passed three laws without Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s consent.
The laws in question are the “Rivers State Education (Return of Schools) (Amendment) Bill, the Rivers Electricity Market Bill, and the Rivers State Commissions of Inquiry Bill 2024.”
Amaewhule, in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Martins Wachukwu on Thursday, accused Fubara of seeing himself as above the constitution, judiciary, and other extant laws of the State.
“Fubara sees himself as one who sees himself as above the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the judiciary, and other extant laws of the state.
“The governor cannot hold back the state as a result of his indolence and ineptitude; the state must move forward,” Amaewhule said.
He emphasized, citing Section 100(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, as the enabling provision that empowered the House to override the Governor’s decision to withhold his assent.
