THE Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, yesterday warned terrorists planning attacks on the South-West region not to put the Yoruba people’s will to defend themselves to the test, saying the Southwest Security Stakeholders’ Group, SSSG, comprised of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, and ten other security groups, will do everything possible to resist any form of attack that can threaten the region, under his leadership.
The Yoruba generalissimo issued the warning in Owo, Ondo state, during a visit to the Olowo of Owo kingdom, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, at his palace.
“My visit is to show my sympathy to your royal majesty and the Owo people over the attack that resulted in the death of over 40 worshippers,” Adams said in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi.
“I issued a statement immediately following the attack, condoling with Kabiesi and the people of Owo.” I was one of the first callers, and I spoke with the Kabiesi, assuring him of my support for the palace and the people of the town in making the town safe.
“However, I believe it is necessary to visit Olowo and the people of the town to formally express my condolences, even as efforts are underway to strengthen the town’s security situation.”
“This time, Yoruba are more united, and we are not afraid.” We have never lost a war in Yoruba land. As a result, we will not relent or relax until we have eliminated terrorists throughout the Southwest.”
In his response, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ogunoye, who blamed the country’s ongoing security challenges on failed federal system arrangements, emphasized the importance of state and police arrangements as a panacea for effective security in the country.
“When they attacked us, Aare was among the first callers,” he explained. He delivered his words with prayers and established continuous security surveillance arrangements with the Oodua People’s Congress’s Ondo state chapter. This is a good initiative that could improve the town’s security.”
