Martin Odegaard, an Arsenal playmaker, has told Mikel Arteta that he is ready to take over the captaincy ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
Odegaard revealed this in an interview with TribalFootball after an impressive performance for the Gunners in a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea in a preseason friendly.
Following the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season, Odegaard is one of the favorites to take the armband.
The 23-year-old is already captain of his country and has stated that he would be willing to step up.
“It’s not something I consider. I think about the future and how to make it the best it can be, so we’ll see what happens.
“I’ve always enjoyed being in charge. “I’m a captain for my country (Norway), and it’s a fun experience,” Odegaard said.
“I don’t know anything about the situation here; I believe that question belongs to Mikel (Arteta) and the club, but if he asked, I would gladly do it.”
