Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has sworn in 17 local governments’ caretaker management committees and charged them to ensure prudent management of councils’ resources.

Buni also tasked the new caretaker chairmen to intensify efforts on local revenue generation to support the financing of development projects in their respective areas for the betterment of the people.

“These appointments were necessitated by the aspiration of the tenure of the last elected local government councils on the 3rd of November 2022.

“In line with the provision of Section 41 of the Yobe State Local Government Amendment No. 8 Law of 2013, the Yobe State House of Assembly approved the constitution of the 17 local government councils management committees with a reflection of their membership from each of the electoral wards in their respective domains,” he said.

According to Governor Buni, government considered the constitution of the caretaker committees as a child of necessity to fill the vacuum created by the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past local councils.

“All the appointees are to run the affairs of their respective councils for a period of six months [at] the end of which election is expected to be conducted into the councils; I will like to, therefore, stress that the appointments were made in view of the recognize hard work, loyalty, experience and envisaged zeal to deliver more selfless services to the grassroots,” he added.

Similarly, Governor Buni also swore in the newly confirmed Head of Service, Alhaji Garba Bilal, who has been in an acting capacity since April 2022.

“While Acting as the Head of Service, Alhaji Bilal exhibited uncommon loyalty, a high sense of responsibility and determination in piloting the state civil service to improve productivity. These factors among others have earned him our confidence in his ability to carry on with the good work of spearheading the activities towards improving service delivery for accelerated development,” Buni stated.
