Gov. Sanwo-Olu Extends Work-From-Home Policy for Lagos Workers Amid Rising Fuel Prices
In a move to ease the burden of rising fuel costs, the Lagos State Government has extended its work-from-home policy for state workers for another three months. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the extension in a circular signed by the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, on Wednesday, citing the need to alleviate hardships brought on by the recent hike in petrol prices.
The policy, which initially took effect earlier this year, allows civil servants to work remotely on specific days to help cushion the economic impact of the removal of fuel subsidies. Workers on grade levels 01 to 14 are permitted to work from home for two days a week, while those on levels 15 to 17 can work remotely for one day a week.
This extension, effective from September 4, comes after a previous directive issued on February 28, when Governor
Sanwo-Olu first introduced the work-from-home option to mitigate the financial strain caused by rising transportation costs. The governor noted that the initiative has had a positive effect on productivity across the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies.
“The policy has made significant positive impacts on the performance of our workers,” Sanwo-Olu stated, highlighting that the work-from-home arrangement has helped workers manage the economic fallout while maintaining efficiency in government operations.
The move is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to address the challenges posed by the rising cost of living, as residents continue to grapple with the ripple effects of the fuel subsidy removal. With fuel prices soaring and transportation costs climbing, the policy extension is seen as a relief measure for public servants who face increasing commuting expenses.
As the work-from-home arrangement continues, the state government will monitor its effectiveness and make further decisions based on the evolving economic situation.
