Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

A gathering of women in the state of Ebonyi was disturbed on Saturday by members of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit, a regional security organization for Eastern Nigeria.

As a result, attendees of the state’s 2022 August Women Meeting denounced the interference.

They requested assistance and the protection of their rights from the Inspector-General of the Police (IGP) and rights organizations.

The President of Umuada Ebonyi Women, Mrs. Charity Chukwuemeka, requested the IGP’s assistance and cited the Nigerian Constitution of 1999, which forbids discrimination based on gender.

It is neither unusual nor foreign to the Igbo that women gather every August to discuss and map out the greatest projects and ideas for furthering the welfare and well-being of our people.

However, Mr. Panchris Ikechukwu-Eze, Governor David Umahi’s Special Assistant on Internal Security, criticized the demonstrators’ actions in response.

Ikechukwu-Eze really guided Ebubeagu agents to the meeting’s location.

According to reliable information, members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) arranged the meeting, which was disrupted, he said.
