Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The federation’s 36 governors will meet today in Abuja to discuss economic, security, and other issues confronting the country.

Mr Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, Director, Media and Public Affairs, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), made the announcement yesterday in Abuja.

He predicted that the state of the economy would dominate the conversation when the 36 governors met at the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall in Abuja.

“Confronted with the citizenry’s economic woes and the hardship associated with them, several governors reasoned that it is past time to tell each other the whole truth by confronting each other on the situation and brainstorming on it.”

“This formed the basis for resorting to an in-person meeting, which has been relegated by state executives since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.” The economy and security will be prominent topics in the discussion.”

Recent media reports that the governors had collectively advised the president to compulsorily retire civil servants aged 50 and above were dismissed as false, noting that the meeting would be the first held collectively by the governors on the nation’s economy in 2022.

Before the meeting, the governors will launch the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge Fund and the World Bank SFTAS charter, according to Bello-Barkindo.

During the meeting, the governors will also be given an update on the COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus program.
