The Honourable Commissioner for Health Bayelsa State, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe has urged owners of Pharmacy, medicine shops across the State against quackery in medical practices.
He gave the charge in his office and following the closure of a medicine shop at prison road Okaka that was caught against the law.
The Health Commissioner, stated that pushing against quackery is one of the cardinal and critical responsibility of the Ministry of Health and working closely with the government of prosperity at this point in time he assured that Bayelsans will be protected at all cost.
According to him, “We got reliable information from a concerned citizen about the shop location and the Ministry’s anti-quackery committee was dispatched to action and the shop was closed immediately.
The States’ Health Commissioner, Prof. Brisibe called on Bayelsans to be part of the process of kicking out quackery in every community.
”If you hear any medical practice that’s not up to standard, kindly report to the Ministry of Health for quick actions” he added.
The Commissioner thanked the anti-quackery committee of the Ministry for their support and efforts in ameliorating situations that stand as a threat to well-meaning Bayelsans.
Prof. Brisibe further stated that, under his leadership and the government of prosperity will not and never allow quackery, saying that allowing quackery in medical practices where unqualified individuals or non-scientific methods are used in place of evidence-based medicine can lead to serious consequences.
