Terror Of Darkness And Suffering In School Of Nursing Tombia.

Published

on

This is Bayelsa State school of Nursing located at Tombia/Ekpetiama. This prestigious institution is specialised in the training of professional Nurses to care for the sick after graduation.

The attention of TrackNews Nigeria was drawn to some deplorable conditions when our correspondent visited the institution. The first thing we noticed was the scene of students carrying jericans and buckets walking out of the school gate in search of water. Our correspondent was made to understand that, the school taps had gone dry for months and students are forced to go out of their way to search for water to meet their daily needs where ever they can find it.

While the water issue was being interrogated students who spoke to TrackNews correspondent was told that, the last time the institution had public power supply is immemorial. The source of power had been a generator where students contributed money from their lean monthly stipends to fund the fueling. And when the power eventually comes, there is no provision to hang a fan because some of the ceilings are broken, creating an enabling route for mosquitoe invasion. The issues are too multi dimensional.

The indices are so glaring that, you don’t need to rely on a prophesy to know that, there is general decay of critical infrastructure and other services due to delebrate neglect by the administrators. For instance, what is described as a sick bay or clinic is a mere consulting room where the most popular drug dispensed is paracetamol. The meals served in the cafeteria is crazy. It can easily pass for a meal meant for dogs. The tea for breakfast is coloured water. Infact, what the situation presently presented in this great institution is a sorry state of complete abandonment and the students cannot do anything about it.

Our worry is that, this mess created will be blamed on Gov. Douye Diri and the innocent man may not be aware. The last time we checked, the authority in charge to manage this school is the Bayelsa State ministry of health. If this is correct, let the commissioner for Health and the Director of Nursing services tell Bayelsans that, they are ignorant of these lingering problems that have caused so much pain to the students. Going forward, remember that, there is a moral burden on the Ministry of Health to do the needful. Fix Bayelsa state school of Nursing now. This is a state of emergency.
