The Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Bayelsa State, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, has urged young peace advocates to harness digital tools and creative communication in promoting unity and driving positive change within their communities.
During his visit to the ongoing Youth Peace Champions (YPCs) training at Best Western Plus Hotel, Oxbow Lake, Yenagoa, the Commissioner engaged with 25 participants drawn from Ayamasa, Ekowe, Ikibiri, and Otuan communities. The five-day program, organised in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is equipping participants with future-forward skills, mentorship, and access to both local and international opportunities.
The training focuses on the effective use of social media, creative content development, and emerging technologies to amplify peace advocacy. Practical sessions introduce participants to storytelling techniques, ethical content creation, and digital tools for impactful community engagement.
In his remarks, Mr. Kemepado highlighted the vital role of young people in shaping a peaceful Bayelsa, calling on them to blend innovation with civic responsibility. He commended the YPCs for their commitment and reaffirmed the State Government’s continued support for youth-led peacebuilding initiatives.
This engagement reflects the Government’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of informed, skilled, and passionate leaders capable of fostering peaceful coexistence across Bayelsa State.
