TRACKING____A Rivers State lawmaker, Kelechi Nwogu, wrote an article supporting executive recklessness and rascality as supervised by Wike and I felt ashamed. As in, it’s shameful and heartwrenching. Some of these lawmakers are clueless.
According to him, the demolition of the hotels is to serve as a deterrent to other violators of the lockdown.
Without being economical with the truth, Governor Wike acted against the provisions of the law. In clear terms, the law does not grant him any power whatsoever to demolish structures for violating the executive order of the State which is actually ultra vire in its entirety.
The power to determine the legality or illegality of action(s) is exclusively vested in the judiciary. That’s the position of the law. So, seeing a Governor take the lead in a clear Illegal action poses serious threat to the continued survival of democracy. A bad precedent has been set and I hope that the owners of the hotels would deem it fit to challenge this illegality in a court of competent jurisdiction.
Governor Wike of Rivers would allow an unnecessary cost of action to be paid by the Rivers State Government for the shameful and illegal act that was supervised by him in Port-Harcourt today if the matter is later taken to a law court.
