I Have Not Gone To Rest Because No Serious Leader Can Go On Rest With Nigeria’s Current State – Peter Obi Mocks Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has said that he has not gone on vacation to rest after the general elections because with the current state of Nigeria, no serious leader will go on vacation.

The former Anambra State governor, who said this on Monday during his visit to the Muslim community in Awka to felicitate with them on the celebration of Eid el-Fitri, noted that his visit had nothing to do with politics.

Obi’s comment is obviously in reference to Nigeria’s “President-elect”, Bola Tinubu, who only returned to the country on Monday after taking over a month in foreign countries to “rest” which actually was for medical treatments.

SaharaReporters had also exclusively reported that Tinubu fell ill after the March 18 governorship and State Assembly and was flown to France for medical treatment.

However, despite the series of denials from his camp on his ailment, SaharaReporters had learnt that Tinubu’s ailment was so severe that for five days while being hospitalised, he could not speak and had to be intubated.

Obi, who had also visited Onitsha Mosque on Sunday to celebrate Eid el-Fitri explained that paying such visits should not only be borne out of political ambitions.

“People who want to rest can go and rest. For me, I’m not resting. No serious leader will go and rest in Nigeria with the way things are today.

“We will continue to visit as many people as we can, and also support them in the best way we can,” Obi said.
Obi, who donated cartons of noodles, bags of rice and soft drinks to the Muslim community also promised to help them in rebuilding the mosque which was undergoing a facelift.

“I thank you for inviting me to the mosque to celebrate with you. You wanted to come to my house instead, but I said it would be better for me to come and now that I have come, I have also seen that the mosque is undergoing reconstruction.

I want to pledge here and now that I shall contribute to the work you have at hand, to ensure that you have a befitting place of worship.

“I am a Christian and you are Muslims, but we are all Nigerians, and Nigeria is one. It is only politics that divides us. But let me tell you, I have never seen any road that is built and it is only for Muslims to drive on.

“I have also not seen any market where Christians buy bread cheaper than Muslims. If you know such a market, please tell me, let me go and buy,” he said.
