Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

‘Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, took members of the Nigerian Guild Of Editors around iconic projects undertaken by his administration yesterday, declaring that if re-elected in 2023, his focus will be to move the state from accelerated development to sustainable growth.

Makinde stated that this vision is the driving force behind Omituntun 2.0, noting that the government has spent the last three years focusing on implementing policies and projects that have not only helped reposition the state but also lifted the people out of poverty and into prosperity.

When addressing members of the NGE at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Makinde stated that if re-elected, he will leave the state in better shape.

According to Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, after the courtesy visit, the governor led the members of the Guild on an inspection tour of various projects, including the Methodist Model School, Bodija, Ibadan; the headquarters of the Oyo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun; the 65-kilometer Moniya-Iseyin road, the 78-kilometer Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road

He stated that the government would continue to build on the progress that had already been made.

Other projects inspected by the Guild of Editors included the Lere Adigun Housing Estate in Basorun, Ibadan, and the Ode Oba Primary Healthcare Centre in Iseyin, which is one of the state’s 299 completed Primary Healthcare Centres.

“Some of the projects you will be seeing have been carried out through Alternative Project Funding Approach (APFA), which has been able to sanitize the mode of delivery in the state,” said the governor, explaining how his administration has been able to achieve massive success in reducing the infrastructure deficit in the state.

“We are all aware of the country’s resource constraints, but we must continue.” The Omituntun 2.0 is about long-term development. We were able to put things in place, and we believe that once we address the issue of sustainability, when I finish my work here, others will be able to take over.

“The unique feature of this administration is that some of these projects were initiated by one of the governors.” If it’s Oyo State money, we’ll try to get some value out of it. So, I’ll take you to a 12-kilometer stretch of road that Governor Akala started between 2007 and 2011, connecting New Garage to Apata. It had not been touched in eight years while former Governor Abiola Ajimobi was governor, but we have now resumed work on it. Currently, about 10 kilometers of that road have been completed.”

Mustapha Isah, President of the NGE, stated that the Guild was in Ibadan for a standing committee meeting and that it would accompany the governor to see some of the projects put in place by his administration.
