The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has banned all police officers from demanding Customs papers from drivers and permits for tinted glass.

Naija News reports that the Acting Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi made this known in a statement on Sunday.

He stated that any police officer caught demanding Custom papers will be severely punished, stressing that the issuance of tinted glass permits remains suspended across the country.

Adejobi said police officers can only stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicle, and its occupants and allow such vehicle to go after a thorough check.

Adejobi said, “No policeman should demand your customs papers. Except they are on joint operation, but not just on mere routine checks.

“We have suspended the issuance of tinted glass permits, so we don’t expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this.

“We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay for not having tinted glass permits.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned as “deeply distressing” the destruction in Imo State, of buildings and assets of the Police and the home of Professor George Obiozor, the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Tracknews earlier reported that unknown gunmen burnt down the residence of the former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States in Awo-Omanma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday by his Media Assistant, Garba Shehu, Buhari strongly condemned the violence in the subregion.

He urged everyone to maintain peace, adding that the law and order capabilities in the Southeast are being strengthened.

Buhari also called on the people of Imo State in particular and the subregion, in general, to maintain peace as the police and other agencies are working to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest.
