The Imo State Government has berated the immediate past Governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha, over his comment on the arrest of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu.

www.tracknews.ng had reported that some policemen arrested Nwosu inside St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama Obieri in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

Reacting to the arrest, Okorocha described the arrest of his son-in-law as a frame-up by the state Governor, Hope Uzodinma.

Okorocha alleged that Governor Uzodinma gave the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, high-level misinformation to get Nwosu arrested.

But in a chat with newsmen on Sunday in Owerri, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, knocked Okorocha for politicising Nwosu’s arrest.

The commissioner disclosed that the state government was not behind the arrest of Nwosu, dismissing the claim by Okorocha that Uzodinma instigated his son-in-law’s arrest.

He stated that the police have every right to arrest a suspect, adding that the former governor was wrong for telling the police how to do their job.

Emelumna stressed that the former governor is just trying to whip up sentiments and speaking from a state of panic and guilt.

He asked the former governor to desist from such an act and allow the security operatives who already confirmed the arrest of Nwosu to do their duty.

“What is the haste in this press conference trying to politicise an ordinary thing. Uche Nwosu is just an indigene of Imo State and a citizen of Nigeria, and if he has run afoul of the law, the police have every right to arrest him, and nobody should dictate to them how they do it.

“It depends on the gravity of the offence, and it depends on the information at their (police) disposal.

“What is painful is that a former governor of this state, Rochas Okorocha, is busy raining abuses on His Excellency, Governor of Imo State [Hope Uzodinma], and saying all manner of things about him.

“I don’t want to join issues with him,” he said.
