Ilorin—Gunmen kidnapped the traditional ruler of Owa Onire, the Onire of Owa-Onire in Kwara State’s Isin Local Government Area, HRH Abdulrahaman Ifabiyi, and his driver over the weekend.
According to Track News, the monarch and his driver, along with an unidentified local, were kidnapped at gunpoint while returning from a social function.
The monarch’s wife was also kidnapped but rescued by police, during which two of the suspected kidnappers were apprehended.
Mr. Paul Odama, the state Commissioner of Police, has already dispatched a team of investigators, aided by vigilantes, to rescue the monarch and others still held captive.
According to Track News, the kidnappers set up an ambush on the road for the monarch and his entourage, who were inside the Lexus 300 SUV, and stopped the SUV at gunpoint.
The kidnappers took the monarch, his wife, the driver, and another passenger inside the SUV before rescuing the wife.
However, sources in the town told Track News that the queen’s wife was released after the kidnappers noticed that she was having problems with one of her legs.
Track News also learned that the kidnappers have been operating in the area for a long time, but the town’s vigilantes have been resisting their heinous act.
When contacted, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the incident to Track News, said men from the command had arrested two people in connection with the incident in collaboration with the town’s vigilante.
