Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Dr. Hale Gabriel Longpet, the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, has lamented the low collection of PVCs since it began in September 2022.

The announcement was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner during a first-ever press conference in Lokoja.

He bemoaned the fact that citizens of the state had not responded positively to INEC’s invitation to go and collect their PVCs.

While PVCs for those who registered between June 28th and July 31st will be ready in November, the REC stated that the Commission is working hard to improve the PVC collection process and ensure that Nigerians have a pleasant experience when they go to collect their cards.

He revealed that the total number of registered voters in the state is 1,939,365, and that the Commission is working with key stakeholders to successfully conduct and ensure a credible 2023 general election.

While noting that the Commission has successfully distributed some sensitive and non-sensitive election materials, the REC stated that training of personnel who will be handling some of the newly introduced technological devices introduced through the Electoral Act 2022 is ongoing at the National, Zonal, State, and Local Government levels.

The Commissioner used the briefing to emphasize that the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for voter accreditation, as well as the electronic transmission of results to the INEC result Viewing Portal in real time on election day, will not be reversed.

The Commission stated that the supplementary voter register will be displayed in all Wards and Local Government areas of Kogi State within the next few days.
