Insecurity: Allow Nigerians To Use AK-47 Guns – Gov Ishaku Tells FG

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has lamented the increasing rate of insecurity in Nigeria and the seeming inability of the government in curbing it.

To this end, the Governor on Wednesday, proposed that the federal government should allow all Nigerians to bear licensed AK-47 guns to protect themselves.

He noted that if security agents have been unable to secure the life and property of citizens, kidnappings, banditry, and other crimes are on the increase, then a new approach has to be deployed rather than waiting for the day evil will befall one.

Ishaku made the call when 15 Local Government Chairmen in the state paid him a condolence visit following the death of one of their colleagues who was kidnapped and subsequently killed by gunmen.

Naija News recalls armed men suspected to be kidnappers killed the Chairman of Ardo-Kola Local Government Council in Taraba State, Hon. Salihu Dovo.

According to information gathered, Dovo was abducted by gunmen at his residence in Jalingo early hours of Sunday, 24th January 2021.

It was reported that barely six hours after his abduction, the kidnappers called an official of the Local Government to announce the killing of the Local Government Council Chairman, according to a family source.

Reacting to the incident when other local government chairmen paid him a condolence visit over the development, Governor Ishaku said: “If one thing you do everyday is not working correctly then you should go find advise from somebody to tell you how you’ll do it differently to get it correct.

“You can’t keep doing the same wrong thing over and over. And if we can’t be able to provide security for our citizens then allow all the citizens to buy AK47 (gun). If everybody is licensed with AK47 (gun), I swear… nobody will come to your house and if the person even come, it will now depend of who is faster between both of you.

“But in a situation where we’re all guard with one particular security system that has been unable to work and we’re told to sit down and be counting the day our time we come; I don’t agree with it.”

While sympathizing with those affected by the loss of the chairman, the governor urged Nigerians to be more security conscious and vigilant.

Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 425 Nigerians stranded in Saudi Arabia arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Wednesday, 3rd February, 2021.

They arrived on board a Saudi Air Flight B773 at about 1300Hrs according to information made available to Naija News by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

They will join other returnees that arrived earlier and are currently undergoing quarantine at the Federal Capital Territory Hajj camp for 14 days in line with the reversed COVID-19 protocols by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.
