TRACKING___Commissioners urge citizens to support gov
Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku has commenced construction work on the Mararaba/Baissa/Abong/Nguroje road, in his determination to remove every obstacle on the way to the proposed Mambilla Hydro Power Project in Sardauna Council of the state.
The federal road, according to the Commissioner for Power, Badina Garba, and his Information and Orientation counterpart, Danjuma Adamu, is âbeing constructed and funded by the stateâ.
During a press briefing in Jalingo at the weekend, the commissioners said it was part of the strategic and proactive steps taken by Governor Ishaku to make the projectâs implementation easier.
The added that the state government had as well rented apartments for use as office and accommodation for the staff of the Federal Ministry of Power.
Reacting to the allegation that the governor had refused to collect the cheque approved by the Federal Government for the compensation of those affected by the project, the duo said the money was not compensation, but for survey work.
âPayment of compensation has not started as being erroneously canvassed in the media. A lot of work by both state government and the Federal Ministry of Power still needs to be done before getting to the stage of compensation.
âThere are several milestones to be met. The governor has directed that this must be thoroughly conducted to avoid complaints and controversies now and in future,â the stated.
While agreeing that the process âis still ongoingâ, the duo said âit is therefore wrong to label such an honest effort of government to do a thorough job as delay.â
According to them, the governor, who was a former Minister of Power, knows more than most Nigerians the benefits of the project; hence they urged the people to eschew sentiments, for the Federal Government to make the project a reality.
They also advised the people to cease orchestrating campaign of falsehood against the person and office of the governor regarding the project.
