– He joined the club from French League side Marseille six years back and has won two Premier League titles with them

Chelsea superstar Cesar Azpilicueta has penned a new long term deal that will see him represent the Stamford Bridge until 2022.

The Spaniard joined the Blues from Olympique Marseille in 2012 in a deal valued around £7.92 million.

He has since then won two Premier Leagues, one Europa League among a number of other titles at the club.

The 29-year-old has however signed a new four year deal with the west London club in a bid to win more laurels with Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Azpilicueta is two matches away from reaching 300 games in Chelsea colours and will become the seventh overseas star in history to reach that considerable landmark.

The defender after signing the deal said that: “I am really happy to extend my stay here at Chelsea.

“Since I came, I felt the joy and responsibility to play for this club, these fans, and every time I go on the pitch I try do my best. Hopefully there is a lot to come and we can keep Chelsea where it belongs.”

Club director Marina Granovskaia added: “Cesar is one of our longest-serving players and has proven to be a fantastic acquisition over the past six years.

“His professionalism and consistency in that time have been second to none and he has also developed into one of the squad’s most influential players.

“This new contract will take Cesar to 10 seasons at Chelsea, and we hope that over the next four years he will be a key part of our success.“

Having joined the club in 2012, he dislodged Ashley Cole Chelsea’s first-choice left-back and was named the Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year in the following season.

Azpilicueta has netted eight times for Chelsea and has been consistent, helping them win the Premier League in 2014-15 season.

TRACKNEWS.NG recalls that Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta agreed a new deal with Premier League giants Chelsea, and he is expected to be earning £150,000 a week on the contract.

There have been reports over the future of the 29-year-old player at Stamford Bridge, but he has now committed his future to the Blues till 2022.

According to the report by Dailymail, Azpilicueta’s current contract at Chelsea will expire in the year 2020 and the Blues’ chiefs want him to stay at the club for a long term.
