Just In: Cross River Records First Death From Covid-19, 4 New Cases

TRACKING____Cross River State has recorded its first death from the Coronavirus pandemic, data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) shows.

According to NCDC’s daily update on new cases for Sunday, July 12, the state recorded four new cases of the virus.

The state has so far recorded 9 cases of the virus with 3 recoveries and 1 death. Nigeria has far recorded a total of 740 deaths.

The state had been embroiled in controversy following claims and counter-claims from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the State Government and the Association Of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) over the handling of the pandemic.

The Chief Medical Director, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Prof Ikpeme Ikpeme had in a memo, said a test result of patients it sent to the NCDC approved testing centre returned positive, though two of the patient had recovered and discharged.

The state has now been granted approval for testing of the virus. The NCDC approved UCTH and Dr Lawrence Henshaw Memorial Hospital.

Total number of cases as of Sunday, July 12, shows 571 new cases with Ebonyi State recording its highest daily cases ever. The breakdown is as follows:
