The Acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Caroline Adepoju, has announced a state of emergency on passport issuance in the country.

Speaking during her working visit to Lagos, Adepoju reiterated the urgent need to address the challenges Nigerians experience in obtaining international passports.

In a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Tony Akuneme, the acting CGI inaugurated a state-of-the-art visa-on-arrival lounge at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Adepoju said that the facility demonstrated the NIS’s commitment to improving the overall travel experience for visitors coming to the country.

The NIS boss also announced a comprehensive plan of action to efficiently tackle the various issues faced by citizens and visitors.

According to her, the state of emergency declaration on Passport issues signifies the renewed commitment of Immigration Service to resolve all challenges faced by Nigerians in obtaining their passports.

“It represents a call to action for all stakeholders to prioritise efficiency, transparency, and excellence in service delivery, “she said.

Adepoju directed all Passport Control Officers, relevant units and personnel, including Missions abroad, to eliminate all hindrances preventing Nigerians from accessing Passports promptly.
