National Stakeholders Committee on Peaceful and Violence Free 2019 General Elections has called on communities and religious leaders to embrace peace and dialogue to end conflicts in their areas.

The director general of National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr. Garba Abari, who is also the chairman of the committee made the call at a media dialogue in Abuja.

He said, “The committee wishes to commend the effort and quick response of the security agencies and Kaduna State government in taking measures that have successfully doused the tension.

“As we move towards the 2019 general elections we urge government at all levels and security agencies to pay attention to traces of violent conflicts at local levels and involve soft power organisations like community, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and government agencies like the National Orientation Agency, Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution, National Human Rights Commission in resolving conflicts,” he said.

He urged local communities to begin the process of conflict resolution through open discussion of issues in the spirit of give and take for a more sustainable peace.
