A former Commissioner of Works in Kano and a known critique of the state government, Mu’azu Magaji has on Friday been granted a 1m bail by the court.

www.tracknews.ng reports the presiding judge, Justice Aminu Gabari of the Magistrate’s court sitting at Nomansland area, granted him bail on the ground of ill-health.

It will be recalled that Magaji is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on defamation of character, intentional insult, injurious falsehood, and inciting disturbance against the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Earlier on Monday, Magaji when brought before the magistrate, pleaded not guilty to all the charges said to be in contravention of Sections 392, 399, and 114 of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Kano State 1999.

When the case came up for hearing again today, the former Commissioner was granted bail and asked to deposit his passport, provide 2 sureties, including the village head of Dan Sarauniya and Hisbah commander from Dawakin Tofa or the Chief Imam.

The case was thereafter adjourned till March 2.

Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) is pushing for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of disgraced Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari.

Recall that the former commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) was suspended from office on August 1, 2021, following his indictment by the FBI for allegedly conniving with internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, to defraud a Qatari businessman.

The supercop was accused of collecting $1 million to arrest and detain another member of the criminal syndicate for several weeks who was at loggerheads with Hushpuppi.

According to two sources and internal memos, the PSC warned that if Abba Kyari is not properly disciplined he could jeopardize the reputation of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
