He maintained that the public service is the engine of government operations, and as such, its welfare cannot be compromised.
According to the governor, the ongoing implementation of reforms in the state’s civil service is aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability. He said that one of the key objectives of these reforms is to create an environment where workers are not only motivated but also given the tools and support needed to perform optimally.
Ododo noted that his administration had recently cleared outstanding salary arrears inherited from previous governments, and has since sustained a steady wage payment system. He assured the workforce that the government would continue to prioritize regular salary disbursement and ensure that no worker is left behind.
The governor also highlighted his administration’s plans to improve working conditions by rehabilitating government offices and providing necessary logistics to ease the daily operations of civil servants. He pointed out that modernization of office infrastructure and the introduction of digital tools are part of efforts to strengthen institutional performance.
Addressing concerns raised by labour unions, Governor Ododo stated that his government maintains open communication with labour leaders and values constructive engagement on all issues relating to workers’ welfare. He said that peaceful dialogue remains the most effective way to resolve disputes and ensure mutual understanding between government and workers.
The governor praised the dedication and resilience of Kogi State civil servants, acknowledging the critical role they play in maintaining governance, implementing policies, and delivering services to the public. He encouraged workers to remain professional and committed to their duties while assuring them of continued government support.
Ododo also emphasized that his administration is committed to improving the capacity of the workforce through regular training and career development programs. He explained that enhancing the skills of workers is vital to the overall development agenda of the state, especially in areas such as education, healthcare, and economic planning.
He added that the government will continue to partner with national labour organizations to uphold workers’ rights and improve conditions of service. He called on civil servants to support government programs aimed at boosting internally generated revenue and strengthening the state’s economy.
In closing, Governor Ododo reiterated that his administration is people-centered and will not relent in making decisions that prioritize the welfare of the workforce and the citizens at large.
