The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested one of its personnel for assaulting two residents in Ilorin, the state capital.

TrackNews understands that a video had gone viral on social media earlier showing a police officer manhandling two brothers for a crime not known.

The identities of the brothers were confirmed as Adeleke Ridwan ‘m’ aged 22years and Adeleke Habeeb ‘m’ (the eldest) who reportedly sell clothes in the Challenge area of Ilorin.

Reacting to the humiliating scenario, the Police Command in a press release made available to TrackNews on Friday, revealed that the officer in the viral video belongs to the Kwara State Command’s Anti Robbery team who were carrying out a routine check along Unity roundabout Ilorin.

The force revealed the identity of the personnel as Inspector Aigbobahi Ogbemudia.

The Kwara Police Command frowned at the development, stating emphatically, that the policeman has no right to hit or assault any citizen in that manner regardless of his status, even as a suspect under investigation.

“For the single reason of lack of discretion on the part of members of the police team, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Cp Tuesday Assayomo psc(+) has directed that the erring policemen, who have been arrested and identified by the victims be detained and departmental orderly room trial commenced immediately and appropriate punishment would be apportioned accordingly,” read the press release signed and made available to Naija News by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ajayi Okasanmi (anipr).

The force said the disciplinary measure will serve as a deterrent to others.

The statement added: “On this note, the Command wishes to advise members of the public to be vigilant and responsive to happenings around them at all times.

The Good people of Kwara State are also assured of the determination of the police authorities in the state not only be seen to be waging war against criminals but also to be seen to be above board in the discharge of their duties with a human face and to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens in line with global best practices.”
