Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The Labour Party, LP, has reacted to a recent Court decision that disqualified three of its National Assembly candidates in Rivers State for the 2023 general election.

Remember that a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt yesterday overturned the nomination of three of its candidates.

The Court ruled in a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the nomination of the three LP candidates violated the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.

Port Harcourt City 1, Port Harcourt City 2, and Obio/Akpor Federal Constituencies were among those affected.

The Rivers State chapter of the party, on the other hand, has vowed to appeal the decision, describing it as unclear and biased.

This was revealed by Hon. Dienye Pepple, the party’s chairman in Rivers State.

“It is crystal clear that the PDP wants to contest the elections alone,” he said, adding that the PDP has taken virtually all other political parties to court in an attempt to disqualify all.

“The judgment does not represent the true reality of things for us in the Labour Party because the affected Candidates have already been substituted.” As a result, the Party is already preparing to file an appeal on behalf of the affected constituencies, as we remain hopeful that justice will prevail.”
