The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Christopher Enweremadu, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Abia State under ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, wanted for alleged financial crimes.

“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices.”

The development comes months after a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Apo ordered an investigation into the use of funds allocated to 17 Local Government Areas in Abia State between 2019 and 2023.

In a ruling delivered in December 2024, Justice Bello Kawu directed the EFCC to deposit a certified true copy of its investigation report, or provide a detailed status of the funds allocated to the LGAs within the four-year period, at the court’s registry.

The judge also ordered the seizure of international passports belonging to three former Abia government officials.

Those affected include the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Prince Christopher Enweremadu; a former aide to the immediate past governor, Erondu Uchenna Erondu; and the Permanent Secretary attached to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Deaconess Joy Nwanju.
