Former Juventus boss, Max Allegri, told the club’s chief, Andrea Agnelli, to sell forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, before he departed from the Old Lady in 2019.

Allegri was the manager of Juventus for five years, from 2014 to 2019.

The 53-year-old won five Serie A titles in a row as well as four Coppa Italia trophies.

The Italian worked with Ronaldo for a season, in 2018/2019, following his move from Real Madrid.

According to Italian outlet, La Repubblica, in Allegri’s last meeting with Agnelli before his departure from Juventus, he encouraged the Turin club to sell Ronaldo as he was stalling the growth of the team.

The report added that, in Allegri’s view, Ronaldo’s presence blocked the pathway for the club’s young players to progress into the first-team squad and feature regularly.

However, Agnelli didn’t agree with the then-Juve coach, and Allegri left the Bianconeri that summer, with Maurizio Sarri replacing him.

Allegri and Ronaldo won the Serie A title together but were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by Ajax.

Ronaldo’s current contract with Juventus will expire in 2022.

Juventus could instead decide to sell Ronaldo, 36, this summer in order to accelerate the progression of the likes of Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski.
