Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Ahead of the general elections in 2023, the Labour Party, or LP, has denounced what it called a cowardly attempt to intimidate party members in Enugu State during a meeting. The party said that no amount of bullets or bombs can silence a people’s agenda or resolve, and that the time has come.

According to the Labour Party, no amount of deceit or intimidation will be able to dissuade Enugu State residents from casting a large number of votes for the party in the general election of 2023.

The response followed the alleged attack the party reportedly experienced while having its gathering in the state last Sunday.

The incident on September 4 “would go down in the political history of Enugu State as the day that reactionary politics coronated itself with the sullied gown of cowardice and violence,” according to Uchenna Igwebuike Ekwe, the Labour Party candidate for the Enugu West Senatorial District.

The Labour Party Leader went on to say: “The infamous coronation played out in Awgu Ward 1, Awgu local government, and a week earlier at Aninri local government as suspected PDP thugs attacked the monthly meetings of the Labour Party in the two local governments, injuring Labour Party members and destroying private property.

“It is regrettable that although the rest of the nation is starting to quickly move away from the politics of guns, bombs, biceps, and triceps, certain interests in the state’s ruling political establishment are determined to put the populace’s resolve to the test. The deranged attackers were heard bragging that no political party would be permitted to exist in Biafra in viral films that recorded those moments of demonic gyrations. Since no other political party gatherings were attacked or threatened but those of the Labour Party, this is an attempt to capitalize on a false flag.

“Three things are established for us by this attack. First, members of Enugu State’s governing political elite are starting to fret over the Labour Party’s explosive popularity because they can already sense Ndi Enugu’s unwavering conviction that the wind of transformational leadership blowing across Nigeria must not leave Enugu State behind.

This massive resurgence of belief in transformational administration among Nigerians and Ndi Enugu is the result of the popular acceptance of Mr. Peter Obi’s call for servant leadership and that of Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Enugu State.

“Second, the recent reactionary and savage attack on the Labour Party gatherings in Enugu State and the failed attempt to cover it up under the Biafran agitation betrays the source of the violence in many parts of the southeast as being political in nature. It is regrettable and tragic that politicians have used the Biafran uprising as a cover for political crime and carnage. While it is understandable for a party that has fallen out of favor with the public to panic at the prospect of a crushing defeat, it is unacceptable for such a ship in trouble to turn to violence and mayhem against the people who have had enough of their pattern of poor leadership combined with arrogance and impunity.

“The shameful attempt to intimidate the Labour Party members in Enugu State demonstrates that the recent attacks’ backers are already exhausted and disappointed. The truth is that no amount of gunfire or bombs can silence a people’s agenda or determine when the right moment is. Since then, the people of Enugu State have decided to support the Labour Party in significant numbers in 2023.
