A middle-aged man Saheed Oladeji was rescued on Monday after he attempted suicide by jumping into Osun river.

It was the third time Oladeji was rescued from suicide attempts. He jumped inside the Osun river around Gbodofon bridge, Osogbo/Gbongan road on Monday.

An eyewitness Shukrah told The Nation: “Oladeji jumped inside the river on Monday morning. The residents of the area quickly notified the State Fire Service who rescued him from the river. He is a car wash attendant. He was pulled out of the river by men of State Fire service.”

In a video obtained by The Nation, Oladeji confirmed he is from Iwinjobi’s compound in Osogbo.

He said: “I have a wife and children who are based in Lagos. I don’t want any cash donations from anybody. I am fine.”

Osun Fire Service spokesperson Ibrahim Adekunle confirmed the incident.

He said: “That will be the third time that Oladeji will attempt suicide. We have rescued him twice.”

He also said a rescue operation is ongoing for a man who jumped into a river in Ede on Sunday afternoon while the corpse of a lady that jumped into Osun river last week has been found around Ebunoluwa area.
