Meet Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, The DG and CEO of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN)

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, an illustrious son of Ebira land, has made a name for himself in the energy sector. He was born in January 1985 in Kano, but hailing from Okene Local Government area of Kogi State, Dr. Abdullahi has risen through the ranks to become the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN). His appointment to this position was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 24, 2023.
Dr. Abdullahi holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), formerly Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST). He furthered his education at the University of Salford, UK, where he obtained his MSc. Dr. Abdullahi also secured a Postdoctoral fellowship as a Research Associate in the School of Engineering at the University of Manchester, made possible by the Industry Collaboration Fund (ICE). His PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester focused on oil and gas structural health monitoring.
Before taking on his current role, Dr. Abdullahi accumulated over 14 years of experience working with prominent organizations in the energy sector. He served as a Research Associate and Teaching Assistant at the University of Manchester’s School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. Additionally, he worked with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), formerly known as the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). Dr. Abdullahi’s expertise spans oil and gas, renewable energy, sustainability, space technology, and research.
As the Senior Technical Adviser (STA) to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, Dr. Abdullahi demonstrated his leadership capabilities. Now, as the DG and CEO of ECN, he is poised to drive Nigeria’s energy sector forward. With his wealth of experience and impressive educational background, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi is the perfect candidate to lead the Energy Commission of Nigeria towards a brighter future.
Dr. Abdullahi as someone who’s passionate about Ebiraland has contributed and still contributing to the growth of Ebiraland by using his position to facilitate employment for the youths and promoting educational activities in Ebiraland.
