Mixed Reactions As Buhari Fires Adamu, Appoints New IGP

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, who disclosed the development during a briefing with state house correspondents in Abuja, noted that the appointment is with immediate effect.

TrackNews reports that Adamu was away in Imo State where he visited the police facilities recently attacked by gunmen in Owerri the state capital when his sack and replacement was announced in Abuja.

Until his appointment as the acting Inspector-General, Baba was the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters.

The development has attracted different reactions from Nigerians and below are some of their views as expressed on Twitter.

Don’t we have a Yoruba, Igbo or perhaps a Niger Delta indigene in the top echelons of the Nigeria Police and Military forces? Why do the appointments of Security service Chiefs always skewed to the northerners only? I think this must be looked into with a view to curbing nepotism
