Muslim-Muslim ticket: Popular ex-Governor withdraws from APC

Air Vice Marshal Frank Ajobena (Retd), Abia State’s first Military Administrator and a Delta State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from the party.

According to Track News, Ajobena, an APC national caucus member, described the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 election as “the highest level of insensitivity to the Christian faith in the country.”

He announced his departure from the APC in a statement on Tuesday, blaming it on the choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as running mate by the party’s presidential flagbearer in the 2023 election, Bola Tinubu.

“Tinubu is not my enemy, and I am not against him,” he says in part. However, let’s call a spade a spade. It is not in my character to be a double agent; even though I like the APC, the right thing must be done.

“The decision could be described as arrogant and disrespectful to us, Christians in the APC.”

“The most recent development portrays us as a people who are easily bought with money.” Such behavior is detrimental to our democratic system. In what capacity will I contribute to his campaign train? As a serf?

“A man must stand for something or he will fall for anything; thus, I am resigning.”

Tonye Princewill, a Rivers State APC chieftain, was reported to have left the party by this newspaper.

Princewill, an ally of former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, stated that his departure from the APC was due to Tinubu’s decision to select Shettima as his running mate.
