A new twist has been added to the on-going trial of Kenneth Amadi, an ex-staff of Eunisell Ltd, over alleged N2.9 billion fraud at a Federal High Court in Lagos, as his lawyer, Emeka Etiaba (SAN), has announced his withdrawal from the case.

Addressing the court on the matter, the silk cited wrong media reports of the case as one of his reasons for withdrawing his services to the defendant. When the trial judge, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, asked the defendant if he need adjournment in order to get another lawyer, Amadi told the court that he wants the second defence lawyer, O. J. Akinwale, to continue.

The judge consequently granted the prayers of Etiaba to disengage from the case. At the last proceedings, the Managing Director of Eunisell Ltd, Chika Ikenga, told the court that the firm did not issue any query to Amadi demanding his explanation on why payments were made indirectly to Eunisell account.

Ikenga, who is testifying in the matter as a prosecution witness, made the disclosure while being cross-examined by the defence lawyer, O. J. Akinwale.

The witness told the court that his firm received payments from two customers, AZ and AMASCO, through the defendant’s company. “We received some money from first defendant and he told us that they came from AZ and AMASCO. As the CEO, we took his words for that.”

When asked if the money was returned since it didn’t come directly from AZ and AMASCO, the witness said “No, we just complained to the police and EFCC”

The witness also confirmed that there was no letter from either AZ or AMASCO to Eunisell stating that the defendant is fraudulent.

The witness further admitted seen the response of AZ to the police after his petition.

He later confirmed the response letter when he was shown a copy. In his response to another question, the witness admitted that AZ paid some money on the day Amadi resigned from Eunisell. He added that AZ was owing Eunisell about N103 million. Further hearing in the matter continues on January 20, 2022
