A faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to name the sponsors of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, killer herdsmen and other groups terrorizing the northern part of the country.

The group’s remark was in reaction to Buhari’s Independence Day speech where he alleged that a serving member of the National Assembly is among those financing separatists in the country. “We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the National Assembly. We shall continue to work on dialogue based solutions to address legitimate grievances. But we remain ready to take decisive actions against secessionist agitators and their sponsors who threaten our national security,” the President said in the speech.

In a statement by the Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Chidi Ibeh led group, said: “The President’s deft moves to name a federal lawmaker sponsoring secessionist groups of Oduduwa and Biafra nations, is a welcome development but why did the President fail to mention the people recently announced by the UAE as sponsors of Northern terrorism, and why was President not responding to the recommendations of the Senate, to declare Northern bandits, Boko Haram, and killer herdsmen terrorists?.

“The primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and properties.. The Federal Government should step up without any politically motivated considerations of the party the governors of troubled states belong to and suspend them and temporarily replace them with sole administrators for three months. It does not matter whether the governor is in Kastina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger, Borno, Anambra, and the Imo states.

“Declaration of state of emergency in seven states with new seven sole administrators will be a wake-up call for other governors to ensure that security challenges are tackled headlong without any sabotage because security is local.”
