TRACKING_____The South-south zonal commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Ijeoma Udua has led other officials of the group to a meeting with the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson at his office in Yenagoa.

Mrs. Ijeoma briefed the SSG that, NAPTIP has seen to the prosecution of hundreds of cases on human trafficking, and other forms of abuse of human persons across the country.

She however said, funding, operational office spaces, public cooperation, legal backings are some of the impediments working against the smooth operation of NAPTIP across the country, including Bayelsa State, which necessitated the meeting.

In his response, the SSG thanked the officials of NAPTIP for doing a great job over the years, but still expressed worries in the increasing cases of rape, human trafficking and other related abuse on humans across the country.

He drew the attention of the officials to a news he read on the internet, how a 13years old child was lured by an adult, got her pregnant, and now carrying a baby for him. While in another news, he said, a man was carrying a 6months old baby and was defiling her. An act accordingly to him, no reasonable human being wouldn’t even anticipate to do.

The SSG called on the general public not to leave this fight on NAPTIP alone, but assist them by providing information on these abuses to all relevant agencies for prompt actions so that the perpetuators don’t go unpunished.

Konbowei however said that when the officials meet with His Excellency, the governor of the State, it is hoped that he would make some frantic promises on some of their demands to enable them work well in Bayelsa State.

The climax of the meeting was the display of the NAPTIP red card in support of the fight against human trafficking.
