Ahead of the National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Senate Caucus on Wednesday called on members and leaders of the party to subordinate their ambitions and prune their egos in the interest of the party.

The caucus briefing journalists after the meeting, through the Senate leader who doubles as Chairman, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi said they would consult the National Party leadership on zoning that has become a huge challenge to the party, with a view of sourcing the best material preparatory for the 2023 presidential elections.

The lawmaker opined that the caucus would engage President Muhammadu Buhari regularly on party matters and those issues bothering them, even as the caucus was strategic to the stability of the party.

He said: “Engage all leaders, members and stakeholders of the party to come together and subordinate their ambitions and egos to larger interests of the Party in the run-up to the 2023 Elections.

“To consult the National Party leadership on zoning and other pre-election issues and processes in order to attain an all-inclusive process of selecting the best material for leadership of the Party and Government.

“The meeting was called to address some fundamental issues facing the Party in the run-up to its National Convention scheduled to hold on the 26th March 2022.”

Senator Abdullahi further explained that the caucus platform would be committed to ensuring unity and sense of purpose that are required for the party to win the 2023 general election, as well as engaging the governors’ fora; Northern, Southern and National in order to articulate and focus on issues of Party unity.
