TRACKING____The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released results for the 2019 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), which was concluded 49 days ago at various centres in the country.

NECO Acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana, who released the results yesterday, however, noted that there was an increase in the number of candidates booked for various examination infractions due to comprehensive monitoring by senior members of staff. Comparing the overall performance of candidates in the external examinations in 2018 and 2019, Gana noted that the recorded increase of 4,920 cases of examination malpractices led to a decline in the number of candidates who scored five credits and above. According to him, out of a total number of 70,140 candidates, who registered for the examination, 33,576 scored five credits and above including Mathematics and English Language.

He said: “This is coming exactly forty nine days after the last paper was written, as the examination was conducted from Monday, November 18 to Wednesday, December 18, 2019. “Like we always point out, this is an examination conducted for external candidates wishing to acquire the minimum requirements tor admission into various tertiary institutions. A total of twenty nine subjects were examined.

“Total number of candidates that registered for the examination is 70, 140. Number of candidates that sat for English Language is 65, 207 out of which 41, 214, representing 63 per cent got either distinction or credit.

“No fewer than 66, 398 candidates sat for Mathematics, out of which 54,565, representing 82.18 per cent got either distinction or credit; 33, 576 candidates, representing 48.68 per cent got five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. “On the hand, 50, 057 candidates, representing 72.57 per cent, got five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
