2023: Mbah, Ikonne, Nwaifuru worthy successors of Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, Umahi – Ohanaeze
Few weeks to the 2023 general elections, apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has urged Ndigbo to be cautious while exercising their franchise.
The Igbo group said the advice became necessary in order not to worsen the level of insecurity in the South-East Zone.
Track News reports that there would be governorship elections in Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi States.
In a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, he said any vote for unproductive leaders as Governors in Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu States in 2023 would exacerbate insecurity challenges, decline the economic prospects and weaken the political will of the South-East.
Isiguzoro cautioned that, “this time is filled with uncertainties for Ndigbo, with the rising violent agitation, activities of killer herdsmen and dwindling economy.
“Igbos don’t need pranksters, gullible administrators and inexperienced superintendents as Governors in Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu States in 2023″.
He added that Ndigbo had suffered from externally imposed leadership, which he said had brought political sabotage, economic woes, imperialism and external control of governance by godfathers of puppet governors.
“There is urgent craving to curb the excesses of these puppet Governors in the East who are interested in undermining the collective bargaining and agreements of the South-East as witnessed in the build-up to the 2022 presidential primaries,” he noted.
The Ohanaeze scribe explained that, “Ndigbo believe that Professor Uche Ikonne will be a respectable successor to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Abia State.
“Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwaifuru will be a decent successor to Governor Dave Nweze Umahi in Ebonyi State, while Barr. Peter Mbah will be a worthy successor to Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
“There should be no mediocrity in governance or learning on the job when one is elected as Governor by 2023 in the South-East.
“Let me add that Governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Dave Umahi and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have the support of Ndigbo to represent Abia South, Ebonyi South and Enugu North senatorial zones in the Senate by 2023,” he further stated
