According to an eyewitness, Chizurum Achinivu, “Yesterday a dozen of the gunners of the Nigerian army came with their van. We were wondering, What kind of job is this? I just heard the screams. They opened fire, killing many on site, I ran for my dear life.
“They captured as many as they could get and put them in their van, they destroyed homes. All I could do was run. Very faintly, from far away, I kept hearing gunfire, over and over. People of Southeastern Nigeria are killed on a daily basis and most of these killings don’t appear on the news.”
