Adeleke dethroned three Osun monarchs.

Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has dethroned three monarchs appointed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Former Governor Oyetola named several monarchs just weeks before handing over power to Adeleke. Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Yinusa Akadiri, Aree of Iree, Oba Ademola Oluponle, and Oba Adegboyega Famodun are among them.

In addition, the former governor approved the appointment of 30 permanent secretaries to various ministries.

However, Adeleke announced about 24 hours after his inauguration, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that the thrones of Akirun of Akirun, Aree of Iree, and Owa of Igbajo remain vacant pending the outcome of a Committee of Inquiry to review their appointments and subsequent installations.

According to the statement, the governor signed six Executive Orders this morning that deal with the reversal of monarchs’ appointments, the appointment and placement of civil servants, employment, and the freezing of government accounts.

“All appointments of traditional rulers made by the Osun State Government after July 17, 2022, are hereby ordered to be reviewed to ensure strict adherence to the due process of chieftaincy declarations and native law, custom, and tradition relating to such chieftaincies.” To avoid further breakdown of law and order in the case of Ikirun, Iree, and Igbajo, the appointments of Akinrun of Ikinrun, Aree of Ire, and Owa of Igbajo are hereby put on hold pending review. As a result, the palaces of Akinrun of Ikirun, Aree of Iree, and Owa of Igbajo should remain vacant, while security agencies are tasked with taking charge.

“All employments made in the service of the Osun State Government in any capacity into any capacity in all the Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals after July 17th, 2022 be and are hereby null and void,” he said.

According to the statement, the Governor also ordered the reversal of civil service appointments and directed the heads of government agencies to conduct an immediate staff audit.

“All Heads of Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals of the Osun State Government are hereby directed to conduct an immediate staff audit of the actual number of government workers in their respective Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals as of 17th July, 2022, and should file a report to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor stating the full details and position/designation of each of the staff on t

“All appointments made in the service of the Osun State Government in any capacity into any capacity in all the Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals after July 17, 2022 be and are hereby reversed,” the statement reads.

Similarly, the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, issued a statement ordering the immediate suspension of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC.

“The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has directed the immediate suspension of Mr. Segun Oladitan, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), and the following members of the Commission; Mr. Yusuf Oyeniran, Alhaja Suibat Adubi, Prince Yinka Ajiboye, Mrs. Abosede Omibeku, Mr. Dosu

“This suspension follows several petitions filed against the said Chairman and members of the Commission alleging financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism, and abuse of office.”

“Pending the outcome of the investigation into the allegations against the suspended Chairman and members of the Commission, the Secretary to the Commission shall preside over the Commission’s affairs.”
