Bandits attack Zamfara town, abduct 10, burn four military and police vehicles
Armed bandits allegedly led by a notorious kingpin, Gwaska Dankarami, attacked Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara state, burnt four operational vehicles belonging to the military and police A resident of the area, Malam Musa Aliyu Zurmi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in a telephone interview on Thursday said the bandits numbering hundreds invaded the town around 4pm Tuesday, December 12, carrying sophisticated weapons.
They attacked the military base and police divisional headquarters and two operational vehicles of the military and two belonging to police were burnt to ashes during the invasion, he said. Malam Zurmi further stated that the bandits exchanged fire with security operatives for over two hours. Four operational vehicles belonging to the military and police were burnt during the encounter. “As I am speaking to you now, many people in Zurmi town have fled to Dauran and Kaura Namoda to save their lives, he said. He stated further that troops had been reinforced in the area and some of them were in the forest to trace the bandits. He disclosed that the bandits abducted some locals during the attack.
“We are living out of fear of further reprisal attack as the terrorists abducted 10 people during the attack in Zurmi, including a nursing mother, her husband and her baby, he added.
