Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has revealed that the recent flood that ravaged his state has cost the state government N2 billion so far.

The governor of the oil-rich state revealed this on Thursday morning during an appearance on the Arise TV morning show.

Remember that Governor Diri accused the federal government of paying lip service to the state’s flooding situation, particularly in response to providing relief materials to mitigate the effects.

“What we have spent so far, I have not asked for the books,” the governor explained. It would be in the range of N1.5 billion to N2 billion or so. He also revealed that he has not left Bayelsa since the flood began, and that he has formed a flood management committee dedicated to specific areas, particularly the state capital, IDP camps, and local government areas.

“So, by the time we get everything together, we’ll make public how much the state government has spent so far in this natural calamity that has struck my state.”
