Bayelsa PDP is intact , Those Leaving Are Political Leeches – Diri’s Deputy
YENAGOA – The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is gaining more grounds than other political parties as the governorship election on November 11 inches closer.
He said the PDP had remained as solid as a rock and had only shifted members who were merely occupying space to the opposition All Progressives Party (APC) describing them as leeches.
A statement issued by his media aide, Mr Doubara Atasi, at the weekend, said that Ewhrudjakpo stated this during a meeting with PDP Women Stakeholders from the three state constituencies in the Sagbama Council Area at the Government House, Yenagoa.
His remarks came on the heels of recent defections of some members of the PDP to the APC ahead of the governorship polls in which Diri and his deputy are seeking reelection.
Ewhrudjakpo posited that the few politicians who left the party only did so in pursuit of filthy lucre, stressing that the PDP-led government in the state was focused on development of the state and was making steady progress in that regard.
He described women as a bulwark of success for any administration, and that they were politically more stable and dependable than their male counterparts, noting that unlike men, women rarely defect from one political party to another.
He thanked the Sagbama women for their prayers and support for the present administration in the state, and expressed confidence that with their continued support, continuity would be consolidated through the forthcoming election.
The deputy governor said, “By the way, the few persons who decamped from our party recently are political leeches who have no electoral value. They were only occupying space. So, for us, their leaving is good riddance to bad rubbish.
“I always tell people, if you want to succeed, make women your companion; if you want to fail, make men your friend. You know why? Men are easily swayed; men, like children, everything attracts them.
“As we prepare for the election, I want our mothers to talk to their children. Tell them that they should not carry guns. We need to remind them that they should not allow themselves to be used to perpetrate electoral violence.”
Earlier, the member representing Sagbama Constituency 1 at the state House of Assembly, Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, had described the PDP Women Stakeholders in Sagbama LGA as a formidable front formed to work for the reelection of Governor Diri and the deputy governor.
She thanked the Diri administration for being gender-friendly through several appointments and elective offices, expressing the group’s commitment towards mobilising women in the various constituencies to actualize the reelection project.
