Biafra/Yoruba Nation: Sowore on Nigeria’s disintegration
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has stated that Nigeria should not be kept together by force.
According to Track News, there are protest movements in southeastern and southwestern Nigeria calling for the independence of Biafra and Yoruba Nation.
Sowore has stated that if he is elected president of Nigeria in 2023, he will allow a referendum on the country’s disintegration.
“Nigeria has reached a point where we must either work toward a perfect union or abandon the union entirely, and one way to work toward a perfect union is to sit down and draft a new Constitution.” Get it ratified, then hold a referendum in which everyone can vote yes or no, and you’re good to go.
“The 1999 Nigeria Constitution is meaningless. You can’t start amending it because it wasn’t created and ratified by the people. In any case, the Constitution’s amendment has become a source of corruption.
“The man in charge of amending Nigeria’s constitution (referring to Ike Ekweremadu) is in prison in the United Kingdom (UK) for attempting to sell someone’s kidney.” “The Constitution review has been a farce,” Sowore told ICIR.
