Court reserves judgment on bail application of Rivers Reps member, Igwe

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has reserved judgment for the bail application by a member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Chinyere Igwe.

Igwe, who is representing Phalga constituency 2 at the National Assembly, is standing trial for money laundering.

He was allegedly arrested in possession of the sum of 498,000 US dollars.

When the matter was called on Tuesday, principal prosecuting counsel, Chidi Ekeh, from the office of the Attorney General, applied to take over the prosecution from the police, which was not opposed by the defendant’s counsel, Reuben Wanoghor.

Track news reports that the presiding Judge, Justice Stephen Day-Lop Pam ruled that the principal prosecutor from the state ministry of Justice takes over the case.

Justice Day-Lop Pam reserved judgment for the bail application and hearing of the substantive matter for the 4th of May 2023 and subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in Police custody
