The Federal Government has announced that the rail service fare will be increased as the Abuja-Kaduna train service resumes.
Mu’azu Sambo, the Minister of Transportation, announced this on Sunday while announcing the extension of the station’s resumption date.

Remember that the Nigerian Railway Corporation shut down the station in March 2022 after a terrorist attack on passengers.

Concerning the resumption of activities at the station, Sambo stated yesterday that the rail service fare would be increased due to the country’s economic situation.

The minister also stated that the number of daily trips would be reduced, and that night trips would be discontinued until further notice.

According to Track News, Sambo revealed this to journalists on Sunday in Kaduna while inspecting the train station.

“The number of trips will be reduced,” he said. Naturally, a certain number of passengers will be uncomfortable boarding the train for obvious reasons.”

He predicted that as the traveling population grew, so would the number of trips per day.

“Because we are human, we are bound to feel a little uneasy until we see that every security measure has been put in place.” As a result, we will reduce the number of trips, and as the traveling population grows, we will increase the number of trips, but we will not travel at night for the time being.

“Please be aware that fares will be raised. I am in final discussions with the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the ministry’s management to determine whether we will proceed immediately or take some time.

“We all know that prices have risen, even airfares, and we haven’t heard anyone complain about it.” Why is it that people only react when it comes to train fares? “I can assure you that the poor masses will be cared for and taken into account because we are a very sensitive government,” the Minister said.
